Friends of the Rosary, Today, January 21, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Agnes of Rome, the fourth-century virgin martyr. At the age of twelve, she freely decided to die for Christ, keeping with the words of Christ and Saint Paul. Agnes, a young woman of incredible beauty and charm, suffered death for her consecration to Christ. And when the son of the Roman prefect offered to marry her, she replied: "The one to whom I am betrothed is Christ Whom the angels serve." "Agnes" means "lamb" in Latin; in Greek, it denotes "pure, chaste." Since the 6th century, artists have depicted Agnes with a lamb in her arms, evoking her humility, purity, and innocence.
