Today’s Bible in a Year reading from Exodus 1–3 and Matthew 14:1–21 centers on a steady and hope-filled truth: God is at work behind the scenes, even when circumstances shift suddenly and unjustly. Across both passages, we see that God’s purposes are not interrupted by changing seasons, political power, or human fear. His work continues quietly and faithfully, even when the story takes a difficult turn.As Exodus opens, the narrative moves from blessing to oppression. A new king rises in Egypt who does not remember Joseph or the role God played in preserving the nation. Fear replaces gratitude, and God’s people are forced into bondage. It is into this harsh reality that Moses is born, under a decree meant to end his life before it begins.
