Jason Kander - The Invisible Storm Of PTSD

from ManTalks Podcast

A lot of misunderstanding surrounds Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and yet it's one of most impactful injuries that can happen to a person. So when I heard of Jason Kander, a former Army Captain and political leader who's been decisively honest with his experience, I immediately wanted him on the show to shed some light. It was an honor. Jason provides a more nuanced and experienced definition of what PTSD is and what it feels like, and we cover how PTSD affected Jason's mindset, career, wife, and family. If you're a veteran (or know one) and this show resonates, don't hesitate to call the Veterans Crisis Line; call 988 and then hit 1 to speak with someone (or text 838255). In Canada, call 1-800-268-7708, and in Australia, 1800 011 046. Jason Kander is a former Army Captain and intelligence officer who served in Afghanistan, and was the first millennial ever elected to a statewide office. He is the current president of national expansion at Veterans Community Project, a non-profit providing housing and walk-in services to American veterans, and co-founder of the Afghan Rescue project, a non-profit that has safely gotten over 1700 men, women, and children out of Afghanistan. Kander is also the host of Majority 54, a popular political podcast. Jason’s first book, Outside the Wire was a New York Times bestseller, as is his second book Invisible Storm: A Soldier's Memoir of Politics and PTSD, a brutally honest memoir of his struggle (and healing) with PTSD. He lives in Kansas City with his family.
