Our Videoslave Jackson gets on the mic to sing the praises of Les Miserables (2012), a musical melodrama about a closeted cop who develops a perverse crush on a superhuman bread thief. Purse your lips and blow—it’s a steaming hot new JSS. Les Misérables (2012), directed by Tom Hooper, is a sweeping musical drama set in 19th-century France. It follows Jean Valjean (played by Hugh Jackman), an ex-convict who seeks redemption while being relentlessly pursued by the lawman Javert (Russell Crowe). Along the way, Valjean becomes guardian to Cosette (played as an adult by Amanda Seyfried), the daughter of the doomed factory worker Fantine (Anne Hathaway). The film explores themes of justice, sacrifice, and love amid the backdrop of political upheaval and revolution. With powerful performances and iconic songs, it adapts the classic Victor Hugo novel into a stirring cinematic experience.
