Not that he could perform miracles. But that he is the resurrection and the life.John 11 is one of the most remarkable chapters in the Bible. Jesus weeps at the graveside of his friend. He doesn't pretend death is okay. He rages against it. And then he calls a four-day-dead man out of a tomb.The raising of Lazarus isn't the main event. It's a sign pointing to something greater — the death and resurrection of Jesus himself, and the promise of eternal life for all who believe in him.Martin Luther called it the great exchange. Jesus took our death. We receive his life.John Lennox, Oxford mathematician and Christian, was asked about transhumanism this week. His response? You're too late. The problem of physical death was solved when God raised Christ from the dead 20 centuries ago.Is death the end?
