from CEOs You Should Know: Washington DC · host iHeartMedia Washington DC

Jim MalloyA native of Silver Spring, Md., Jim Malloy’s connection to the greater Washington, D.C., community runs deep. The youngest of four children, Jim was one of the first babies born at the (then) newly opened Holy Cross Hospital. He completed elementary school at St. John the Baptist and is a proud 1981 graduate of St. John’s College High School. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1986, Jim proudly served our country as an officer in the U.S. Navy at home, at sea, and abroad, commanding two ships, a squadron, and culminating in command of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. His distinguished career in the U.S. Navy helped instill in him a deep commitment to servant leadership — a deeply held belief that, for any organization to thrive, leaders must empower those they lead. Energetic investment in people is the key to unlocking their potential while promoting enthusiastic ownership of the mission at all levels. Through great mentors, Jim learned that leaders must fiercely advocate for their people — their success is not simply a means to an end, it is an end unto itself. Jim, a vice admiral, retired from active-duty service in October 2022. He was appointed president and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington by Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory, effective July 1, 2023. A past member of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps board of directors, he has been a mentor to students in the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps. He also has been a volunteer with Helping Hands for Veterans in the Tampa, Fla., area. Throughout his naval career, Jim was a Catholic lay leader aboard the Navy ships on which he served. Jim and his wife, Kimberly Ann, have three adult children. Active parishioners at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez, reside in Ellicott City, Md.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
