Joan Mackenzie: The Plot and The Judge's List
from The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin · host Newstalk ZB
The Plot by by Jean Janff Korelitz. She wrote a book called You Should Have Known which was turned into the TV series The Undoing with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant that Francesca might have seen – it was terrific. This new one is about a writer who had moderate success with a book but can’t replicate it and is teaching creative writing at a 3rd rate university when one of his students outlines this brilliant idea he has for a plot – and at some point in the future, the writer appropriates the idea and has a massive bestseller but of course it comes back to bite him. The Judge’s List by John Grisham. I love his books, he’s always on the right side of things. This is about a woman who works as an investigator for the Florida Judicial Review board and gets word that one of the judges within her jurisdiction may be a murderer. It’s not procedural crime in the way some of these thrillers are but is more about the humanity of people caught up in this kind of thing.
