Job Scams and Ghost Posts... As if The Job Search Process Wasn't Hard Enough Already

from Surfing Corporate · host Surfing Corporate

According to the Better Business Bureau, approximately 14 million people encounter job scams annually in the U.S. alone! 😱😱In 2022, CNBC reported that Americans lost $68 million to this deceitful practice. With the rise of remote job opportunities, scammers have unlocked a whole new level of potential victims. In this episode, we tackle the very current issue of job scams, and we talk about "ghost posts" (positions that companies post on major online professional platforms, but they have no real intention of filling) and why that’s actually a thing. We also interview Callie Heim, a marketing professional who was scammed via LinkedIn's Easy Apply feature, and we connect with recruiting expert Daniel Space (@danfromhr) who shares advice on how to avoid this from happening to you. This one is for the rebels, the creatives, and the reluctant leaders. This is for people who dare to live + think outside, by design. Grab a helmet and buckle your boots because we get deep. The host: My name is Lisa Slagle, and I’m a creative director, writer, and human woman dedicated to having as much fun as possible while creating meaningful, impactful work along the way. For the last 14 years, I’ve owned a creative agency called WHEELIE, which I started from a clapped-out laptop and some soggy business cards that I used to hand out on chairlifts. It grew into a thriving company full of awesome humans, and I’ve gotten to meet and work with thousands of amazing creatives, marketing teams, VPs, CEOs, Explicit Front Seat Life Podcast Jessica Butts The Front Seat Life Podcast and the Healing the Hustle series are hosted by Jessica Butts, a psychotherapist, three-time author, Myers-Briggs expert, corporate trainer, and keynote speaker. Now serial entrepreneur, best selling author and financial educator as I talk all things money. Why a podcast about money? That's because as women we're choosing not to talk about it and when it comes to dealing with money - we're kind of sucking at it. There is a wage gap that exists not simply in the corporate world but in the world of small and medium business owners where women should be on par with men. There is a gap between men and women that we've tossed in the too hard basket for the moment in our superannuation funds. And there's a widening gap between those who own property and those who do not.And let's not even talk about the role money and power holds in our society. That's why ladies I believe finance is a feminist issue. It's time we started to uncensor money. Here you'll find chats about money where we throw off the notion that money is crass or uncomfortable.
