Join Curtis Mack behind the mic in WRNJ’s studio as he speaks with radio legend and #NJ native, John Hennessy. John has broadcasted in the #AHL and #NHL for the #AlbanyRiverRats and #TheNJDevils and he has the championship rings to prove it. Hennessy started his career in 1993 with professional sports broadcasting and prior to that he worked at stations like #WBZ and #WKOX after graduating from Providence College and later William Paterson University. It was John’s dream to become a broadcaster as far back as he remembers. “My father had season tickets to the #Rangers back in the ‘70’s.” says, John. His career was inspired by names like Marve Albert, Martty Glickman, and Bob Wolf. Later working with names such as; Mike Emerick, Chico Resch, Randy Velischek who also is a #Jersey guy according to Hennessy. “I got my start in local radio.” says John. Curtis Mack explains to John his start in local radio as well. John has a championship ring from 1995 with the River Rats and 2003 with the Devils. John even found himself hosting a television program with #FOX pregaming NHL games along with voicing other memorable broadcast opportunities. John mentions his favorite place to travel is #Newfoundland because he “loves the people there” and of course a good #hockey game. “Travel was a big part of the job.” says John. After 20 years of #radio broadcasting, John mentions that he’s semi-retired, but If the right opportunity came along at a local station, he’d take it.
