Joining me on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast is John Sharpe.

Meet John Sharpe.

John Sharpe was the last of four rascally Sharpe kids, born and raised in Farmington, New Mexico by an insatiably curious, creative and driven mother and  Dr. J.H. Sharpe, one of two doctors and the only surgeon serving the locals. After a happy childhood, John attended New Mexico Military Institute for 3 years of H.S., then spent a year on the road performing with Up With People before heading to Texas A&M University, where he met his wife, Irene, and got a BS degree in Marketing.

Happily married for 40 years now with 2 adult children, John put his early years as a waiter and his love of art and psychology to good use, first on the agency side of the advertising business, and then for 35 years, running Sharpe + Associates, a repping agency for commercial artists before retiring in December of 2022.

John moved his business and his family to Westchester in 1993 and has lived here since. Upon arrival, he became an active volunteer in the community, activities which have included serving on the board of the Kentwood Home Guardians, serving on the board of the Emerson Avenue Community Garden, founding the Painted Pantry Project, a community pantry at the YMCA, serving as the Board Chair at the Westchester Family YMCA, founding HouseMusic, a series of live house concerts to support working musicians, founding Friday Night Live, a series of live streamed concerts supporting musicians throughout the Covid shutdown, and co-founding and producing the Westchester Arts & Music Block Party, known as WAM,  now in it’s 10th year.

In addition to his community and family, John is passionate about the environment, politics, cooking, music, art, theater and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through pickleball and meditation. He loves entertaining and isn’t afraid of being center stage.

In Closing.

You will be inspired to hear John’s stories about why he believes community service is so important. If you have ever considered being a volunteer, I hope his stories will motivate you to see what organizations might be something you can support.  No organization can have too many volunteers!
