Jon le Galloudec, known to his comrades as Frenchy, served in Basra as a Lance Corporal in the 4th Battalion the Rifles.He was shot in the back and paralysed in an ambush by insurgents in Basra in 2006, and his best friend was killed coming to his rescue.After years of operations, Jon has been able to walk again, though he is still in pain and requires more surgery.A soldier told he would never walk again after being paralysed in a sniper attack has defied doctors by running - thanks to the UK’s first ‘bionic’ splints.Lance Corporal Jon Le Galloudec, 33, was blasted in the spine on a night time mission in Iraq.Doctors told him he was lucky to be alive but he was paralysed from the waist down and would never walk again.But now, thanks to the UK’s first highly advanced bionic splints, he has defied all the odds to run - after just three weeks of having them.Today, he has left the Army and is studying land management - but returns to Tedworth House, the rehabilitation centre run by the military charity Help for Heroes, to speak to other wounded servicemen.
