Dhrutraashtr knew that gambling is an evil that leads to destruction of the family but he was not able to resist the emotional blackmail of Duryodhan. Vidur was strongly opposed to gambling and he said so in absolutely clear words. Though Vidur was able to force Dhrutraashtr to hesitate, he failed to put brakes on the evil designs of Duryodhan.
