June 16 | Responding to Opposition

Today's reading from Nehemiah 4–6 and Acts 2:22–47 invites us to consider the power of persistence and what it looks like to remain faithful when opposition, challenges, and distractions try to pull us away from what God is doing in our lives. Both passages remind us that spiritual growth is often built through steady faithfulness over time rather than dramatic moments.In Nehemiah, the people face ridicule, threats, fear, and discouragement while rebuilding Jerusalem's walls. Their enemies attempt to minimize their work and convince them that their efforts are pointless. Yet the people continue to build, pray, and trust God. Their persistence becomes a powerful reminder that God's work often advances through ordinary faithfulness in difficult circumstances.In Acts 2, the early church begins to take shape after Peter's message at Pentecost. New believers devote themselves to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, prayer, and worship. Their growth does not come through a single event but through a consistent commitment to living together as God's people and continually responding to His Word.Together, these passages encourage us to keep showing up, keep listening, and keep following God even when progress feels slow. They remind us that formation happens one day at a time, and that God often accomplishes His greatest work through people who simply refuse to quit.
