Just Dive In with Lauren Pickman (Episode 70)

from Girls Gone Gravel podcast

This week on the show Kathryn and Kristi are joined by Lauren Pickman. Lauren is a central figure of the cycling community in Bentonville, AR and founding member of the Women of Oz cycling group. The group started with a handful of women who were curious about getting out onto the trails in Bentonville and has now expanded to include weekly groups rides, clinics, and a free monthly flagship group ride that regularly has over 150 women. The mission of the Women of Oz is to break down barriers for women who want to take up mountain biking and gravel riding in NW Arkansas, by providing education, facilitating access to equipment, and providing a safe and welcoming group atmosphere. Lauren gives us a few of her expert tips on how to start or get involved in group rides in our own local areas. Lauren is also the co-founder of the Rule of Three, a bike race that emcompasses riding on tarmac, gravel, and single track. Although there is some hard core racing at the front, it is safe to say that the Rule of Three has adopted the “Mullet Protocol” and there are many fun times to be had for all riders at any pace. Registration for the event opens February 3rd, 2022. You can learn more about it at their website ruleofthree.bike.
