K2C 40 – Armor of God (Part 4): The Shield of Faith
from Kolob to Calvary's podcast · host Tracy Tennant
In Ephesians 6, the apostle Paul instructs believers to take up "the shield of faith" so that they can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one. But what exactly does that mean? In this episode of the Armor of God series, Tracy explores how Roman soldiers used their shields in battle and how this imagery helps us understand the role of faith in spiritual warfare. Unlike the belt, breastplate, and shoes—which are worn continuously—the shield is something a soldier must actively raise and use. Faith requires trust, and trust must be grounded in truth. Throughout Scripture we see that God is faithful and unchanging, and that His promises can be relied upon even in the face of overwhelming opposition. Using the example of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace, Tracy highlights what genuine faith looks like: unwavering trust in God, even when the outcome is uncertain. Just as Roman soldiers could interlock their shields to form an almost impenetrable defense, believers are strengthened when they stand together in faith within the body of Christ. When we lift the shield of faith—personally and collectively—we are able to withstand the attacks of the enemy and stand firm in the promises of God.
