Kachelle Kelly: Infusing Faith In Business

from Redefining Wealth with Patrice Washington · host Patrice Washington

When it comes to incorporating faith into their business, many business owners shy away from it, and not because they aren’t spiritual. But because, in many cases, they’re afraid to offend people who don’t share their beliefs.  I’ve had that fear. People have even told me to tone down the “God talk.” But God is an integral part of my business and my life, and to ignore Him and my faith wouldn’t be right. It also wouldn’t be of service to my business. In today’s episode, I sit down with Kachelle Kelly, author of Boss Women Pray and Boss Men Pray, and we talk specifically about how to infuse faith into your business and not feel like you’re pressuring others to believe what you believe. This episode is brought to you by The Courage Circle, a community of women committed to growing BOLDER in their faith so we have the confidence and courage to go after EVERYTHING God said we could have! She was able to successfully introduce the idea of merging faith and business in the world’s first prayer guide for entrepreneurs and corporate leaders, Boss Women Pray and Boss Men Pray, which created an international movement. Even with the success of those book, Kachelle is most proud of her book Boss Kids Pray: ABC’s Prayers for a Child’s Life, featuring power words and prayers to cultivate children in today’s culture. Kachelle has been featured in Entrepreneur, Black Enterprise and Sister 2 Sister Magazine. She, and the entire Boss Pray movement, also received recognition in her Houston, Texas hometown where she was is now the first female in the personal and professional development field to be awarded her own day.  Boss Women Pray “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” – 3 John 1:2 This verse has been one of my guiding scriptures since January 1, 2006. So when I opened up Kachelle’s book Boss Women Pray and saw it, I knew the book was going to be incredible – and it is. As a woman of faith and someone who incorporates God into her business, I’m always surprised when I meet people who are equally surprised that I incorporate faith into my business. They say things like, “Oh my gosh, you’re so bold” or “I can’t believe you did that – I could never do that.” And I’m genuinely curious about why people shun the idea of incorporating faith into their business.  For Kachelle, she thought it was going to be career suicide to even write Boss Women Pray because no one was mixing business and faith. After all, she didn’t want to offend anybody or assume everybody was Christian, and yet she wanted to be authentic and genuine to herself and her beliefs. “I didn’t want to write a book. I simply wanted to read a book like Boss Women Pray and I couldn’t find anything similar to it.” – Kachelle Kelly After Kachelle searched and searched and couldn’t find anything like what she wanted, she heard God whisper, “When you can’t find something you create it.” Obedience to God “Be obedient and God will give you everything you need.” – Kachelle Kelly  For many people, they hear God but then immediately question what they heard or question themselves and then don’t do it. These are the people who know they want to write a book, but then take seven years to write it or don’t write it at all. Kachelle wrote Boss Women Pray and Boss Men Pray in seven days. As soon as she heard God whisper, “When you can’t find something you create it,” she knew this was her assignment and she got to work. She’d didn’t question Him or her ability. Instead, she got clear on what she wanted this book to be, mapped out each section and meditated on scripture. She asked questions like, “If I was starting a business today, where would I start? Where would I end up? What would be my problems?” And then wrote the content around those things. “I was afraid, but I chose to be obedient because when you hear God, you go – you take action.” – Kachelle Kelly  Excerpt from Boss Women Pray When I was looking to completely shift my team, I kept going back to Day 21: Prayer for Partners and Staff. This prayer allowed me to get clear and intentional about who I wanted to go with me to the next level. Now, you must tune in to this week’s podcast to hear me read this powerful, clarity-inducing prayer. I turn to it time and time again, and I will continue to use it as we keep growing the Redefining Wealth team. Many people are conditioned to pray when something is wrong. Kachelle’s book teaches us that it’s okay to pray specifically for our business. God is concerned about everything that concerns us. So it makes sense that he’d be concerned about our business.  “We box God in and think he’s there only to keep us safe or protected or to give us peace. What we don’t understand is he’s there for everything.” – Kachelle Kelly  How is your relationship with God? Do you share your business concerns with him? Have you been called to do something and it’s still a to-do on your list? I’d love to know in the comments below.
