Kansas City Mental Health Crisis Center The idea of a triage center for police to take people with emotional or intoxication problems instead of jail has been successful in other cities. The was already a plan in place when a funding source became available when the state negotiated with Ascension Health over the sale of two Kansas City area hospitals. State law required profits from the sale go to a not for profit effort in the same community as the hospitals. The Kansas City Assessment and Triage Center suddenly had $20 million headed its way — $2 million a year over the next 10 years.
