Kansas City Youth Court - What's That? Did you know that Youth Courts across the country are teaching young people to be involved in deciding innocence or guilt and handing down sentences? That's right teenagers are defense council, prosecutor, judge and Juries that are holding teens to account for their actions. The charges brought in Youth Court are real and the proceedings have the force of law. Host Margot Patterson talks with Mary Kay O'Malley, Professor of Law at UMKC, her assistant Kayls Kratofil, a graduate of Youth Court and Omari Tatum who is presently a youth attorney in Youth Court. Kansas Appleseed - Working To Make A More Just Kansas Kansas Appleseed is a nonprofit, nonpartisan justice center dedicated to vulnerable and excluded Kansans. Through collaborations with pro bono attorneys and community partners, we investigate social, economic, and political injustice in Kansas and advocate for systemic solutions. We serve as a voice for the public at large and for individuals and groups who are without effective legal representation. The Kansas Appleseed board comprises leading Kansas attorneys who volunteer their expertise to improve the fair administration of justice.
