Keven Mealamu and Grant Nisbett: former All Blacks hooker and Kiwi sports commentator ahead of Rugby World Cup kick-off
from The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin · host Newstalk ZB
The All Blacks are less than a week away from their highly anticipated World Cup kick-off. Next Saturday, New Zealand will face off against France in the opening match of the Rugby World Cup- a match that could help the All Blacks lift the trophy for a record-breaking fourth time. Former All Blacks hooker Keven Mealamu says there's a lot of excitement ahead of the match- but the team will be eager to get the first match under their belts after last week's historic loss. "It's a wake-up call- I remember going into 2011 and losing to Australia as we were leading into the Rugby World Cup. From outside the team, you could see and feel a lot of panic, but it's something we needed." Kiwi sports commentator Grant Nisbett thinks New Zealand's in with a solid chance, but he acknowledges that South Africa and Ireland are clear threats. "South Africa have won 3 World Cups, and you've got to remember they didn't actually become involved until 1995- since then, they've managed to pick up 3. I think they're the team to beat, but there's several others." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
