Picard Season 1 Episode 3 – The End is the Beginning Marie and Brendan return for the next installment of the latest Star Trek series, Picard. Warning: We will definitely be spoiling this episode of Picard, and we have the potential to spoil episodes from other Star Trek series and films too, so please be warned. Although we’ve finally got into space, episode 3 was much trickier to talk about, because there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between the plot strands this week. The jumping around helped to move the narrative forward, but it was more difficult to discuss. This week though we were delighted to see the appearance of THE PICARDIGAN – who doesn’t love interstellar knitwear?! We come up with a couple of other garments we’d like to see in space, and we invite you to send in your submissions too! It all gets a bit deep and philosophical this week, as we discuss the significance of the book Rios is reading and its wider implications for the theme of identity in the series. Our new Romulan character Ramdha also appears to be struggling with reclaiming her identity and Brendan explores this connection. Marie is beginning to wonder if the nostalgic version of Picard which she remembers is actually the true Picard. Is he a feminist, or does he struggle with giving due respect to women in power? In contrast to previous weeks, Marie had no wild theories to offer, and Brendan couldn’t find any Godfatherconnection at all … so far.
