The B-Movie Podcast: Stuffing – The Master
A Thanksgiving Treat. Adam discusses Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. Before Scott’s return (it’s next week) and our Ninja Series goes into full effect, Adam wanted to make sure that you had something for the long holiday weekend. Rather than go with a B-Movie treasure, he’s changed it up. Being Thanksgiving and our unchecked appetites it’s only fitting that we discuss one of PTA’s most overstuffed work; The Master. The music in the podcast is from The Master Original Soundtrack by Johnny Greenwood. The B-Movie Podcast: Prelude – G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Adam’s last dance before Scott’s return. That last dance is G.I. Joe Retaliation… which holds the key to our next big series. Adam has nothing but love for the two live-action adaptations of G.I. Joe. Yes, they’re ridiculously overheated melodrama. What director Jon M. Chu gets right in the sequel is something very specific. That specificity is what we’re here to talk about today. You’re going to have to listen to the podcast to understand how this episode links to Scott’s return and the series we’re diving into. Opening and Closing our Podcast this week is the Opening Theme Song for GI Joe and Closing Music for GI Joe!!! The B-Movie Podcast: Holiday Anti-Cheer – Batman Returns
Adam is without Scott on this episode where he talks about his Favorite Batman movie, which coincidentally is one of his Favorite Christmas Movies; Batman Returns. The broken-hearted, PTSD, Trauma, Circus Side Show Attraction, Political Tomfoolery that is Tim Burton’s Batman Returns is the perfect movie about for 2020, which was not made in 2020. 28-years later it is still Adam’s favorite Batman movie for all those descriptives above and more. Adam discusses; His favorite Batmen (which will not surprise any of the early devotees to the podcast). The way that all the filmmakers (including Film Bro’s Godhead Nolan) STOLE, and continue to steal, from this film. How the film gives us a Batman who uses Bruce Wayne as his disguise as he fights a trifecta of Villians. Something All-Batmans would later follow in the filmic universe. The Stars cast as villains troupe. Using the Holiday season in Action/Genre films. And the prospect of Keaton coming back as Batman in a future film. And the Winner Isn’t … Podcast – Good Will Hunting
Season 1 Episode 7 – Good Will Hunting (1997) Dan and Marie explore the films which were nominated in the Oscar Best Picture category and which could possibly have won … but didn’t. We take it in turns to pick a film, then discuss whether we think things have changed for that movie now, or if the original decision still stands; was it a deserving winner, or something only of its time? In episode 7, Marie’s chosen one of her favourites again – Good Will Hunting. Will Dan agree with her choice, or will he be telling her “It’s not your fault”? Although it didn’t win the Academy Award for Best Picture, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck did collect the statue for their original screenplay, one which also includes a lot of improvisational performance. It did land Robin Williams an Oscar too. We talk about the Boston accent (love it or hate it?), our favourite scenes from the film (yes, there are fruit involved), and our enduring love and admiration for Stellan Skarsgård. The big hitter of 1997 though was Titanic – would Dan agree that Good Will Hunting was a more worthy winner? And what about L.A. Confidential? The B-Movie Podcast: KBMP Vol. 1 – Movies and Music to Lift You Up
While Scott is gone, Adam has decided to play DJ and start-up K-BMP. Music and Movies!!! This is a grand experiment. Adam has been thinking about this for a while now and he figured with anxiety levels through the roof during Election Week what better time to pilot something new. Not having any agenda this week knowing it would be a rough one, we’ve decided to talk about a few “feel good movies” on the podcast following a track from said movie. Simple format, brief interludes about the movie. Here we go! Track Listing: Queen – Princes of the Universe John Carpenter – Theme from Big Trouble in Little China John Waite – Change Meek Mill – Lord Knows / Getting Stronger Heavy Duty – Face the Music Click here to find Scott’s Video Reviews Follow Us on Twitter Follow Us on Instagram Follow Us on Letterboxd Subscribe to the Podcast on iTunes

The B-Movie Podcast: Halloween Special – The Final Destination Series
Adam may not have Scott with him right now but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun for Halloween. He’s covering a horror series near and dear to his heart; The Final Destination movies! If there was a series of Horror films that demanded to be discussed on the B-Movie Podcast it would be The Final Destination series. Much like Adam’s other favorite horror series, Resident Evil, The Final Destination movies get no respect. Or at the very least they are to discussed as often as they should be. Five films that are all Treats and hardly any Tricks (though Part 2 almost is a Trick). The films are pure joy for horror fans that love elaborate deaths. They’re the Saw Franchise without the overly involved plots and mythology. It’s like a highlight reel of the greatest kills of all time but in movie form. Basically, they’re a slasher film starring the ultimate slasher: DEATH! Oh, and of course who could forget the indomitable Sir Anthony Todd showing up giving his gravitas for, almost, the entire series. It’s a lot of fun and Adam is ready to get you to your final destination in time for Halloween!!! Our closing music is War’s Why Can’t We Be Friends? And the Winner Isn’t … Podcast – Field of Dreams
Season 1 Episode 6 – Field of Dreams (1989) Dan and Marie explore the films which were nominated in the Oscar Best Picture category and which could possibly have won … but didn’t. We take it in turns to pick a film, then discuss whether we think things have changed for that movie now, or if the original decision still stands; was it a deserving winner, or something only of its time? In episode 6, Dan has tried to entice me in with my enjoyment of the game of baseball, which I picked up on one of my trips to visit him in Louisville, and has gone for 1989’s Field of Dreams. I don’t think Kevin Costner has ever looked more Kevin Costner. With supporting turns from Burt Lancaster, James Earl Jones, and Ray Liotta it is certainly an icon of its time. But was it better than Driving Miss Daisy? And if yes, was it better than the rest of the field? There may be some unexpected competition this time. And the Winner Isn’t … Podcast – Apollo 13
Season 1 Episode 5 – Apollo 13 (1995) Dan and Marie explore the films which were nominated in the Oscar Best Picture category and which could possibly have won … but didn’t. We take it in turns to pick a film, then discuss whether we think things have changed for that movie now, or if the original decision still stands; was it a deserving winner, or something only of its time? For our fifth episode, Marie chose to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ill-fated Apollo 13 lunar mission, Ron Howard’s take on Jim Lovell’s own account of three men (and NASA)’s battle to return safely to Earth following unforeseen events on their way to the moon. Marie was inspired by the recent BBC World Service podcast series 13 Minutes to the Moon; Season 1 looked at the final minutes of the first moon landing, and Season 2 examined in detail the events of the Apollo 13 mission. Apollo 13 was nominated in 9 categories and won in two, but Dan doesn’t think the best film of that year was even nominated! This leads us to step outside the original 5 nominations briefly to see what else was on offer – and brings us to a side discussion about Michael Mann’s Heat. If you’re interested in following Marie’s Pacino rewatch, you can read all about it at The Complete Pacino. And the Winner Isn’t … Podcast – Raiders of the Lost Ark
Season 1 Episode 4 – Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Dan and Marie explore the films which were nominated in the Oscar Best Picture category and which could possibly have won … but didn’t. We take it in turns to pick a film, then discuss whether we think things have changed for that movie now, or if the original decision still stands; was it a deserving winner, or something only of its time? For episode 4, Dan’s gone for one of his childhood favourites, 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s iconic in so many ways – the costume, the music, the snakes … why did it have to be snakes? Harrison Ford cracks the whip and Karen Allen wears the dresses, with Steven Spielberg directing and George Lucas producing. Join us to see whether we can reach any kind of agreement with The Academy, which decided that Chariots of Fire was that year’s Best Picture. The B-Movie Podcast: Fantasia Fest 2020 Wrap-Up
Adam and Scott are joined by Jeff Ewing to discuss the best of Fantasia Film Festival 2020 (Virtual Edition) The cornucopia of awesomeness that was Fantasia Film Festival 2020 was too much for just Adam and Scott to handle alone. They had to bring back up in. That backup was in the form of Jeff Ewing writer for Forbes, CBR, Shudder, Grit Daily. We breakdown our favorite films of the Fest, take some side tangents (it wouldn’t be a B-Movie Podcast Episode without a few), and generally have a great time discussing one of the Highlights of 2020; Fantasia Fest. The B-Movie Podcast: Summer of Comedy – Palm Springs
Adam and Scott Discuss the Time-Loop Comedy Palm Springs Hulu’s summer release Palm Springs is one of the smartest comedies of the summer. It’s also the funniest. Our co-hosts venture to discuss the film, the time-loop genre, and the greater discussion of Andy Samberg… Movie Star(?!?). You’ll want to have watched this one, trust us its good things, before dividing into this spoilerific episode of the podcast. Those of you expecting Kingpin… don’t worry we just had to swap the order. Kingpin will be up next week. Our closing music is Hall and Oates’s When the Morning Comes. And the Winner Isn’t … Podcast – Sunset Boulevard
Season 1 Episode 3 – Sunset Boulevard (1950) Dan and Marie explore the films which were nominated in the Oscar Best Picture category and which could possibly have won … but didn’t. We take it in turns to pick a film, then discuss whether we think things have changed for that movie now, or if the original decision still stands; was it a deserving winner, or something only of its time? For our third episode, Marie turned the clock back 70 years (yep!) to 1950, and nominated Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard. It’s one of Marie’s favourite films ever, but it turns out it was a blind spot for Dan. How will his 21st century eyes feel about seeing Hollywood and all its weirdness? Sunset Boulevard was nominated for a pile of categories including all four for acting, but lost out in all of the major awards. Join us to see whether we can reach any kind of agreement with the 23rd Academy Awards (and each other), which handed over the Best Picture award to All About Eve. The B-Movie Podcast: Summer of Comedy – Broadcast News
Adam and Scott discuss one of the most intelligent comedies ever made; James L. Brooks’ Broadcast News. Calling a film one of the most intelligent comedies of all time may seem hyperbolic. And The Winner Isn’t … Podcast – The Shawshank Redemption
Season 1 Episode 2 – The Shawshank Redemption (1994) Dan and Marie explore the films which were nominated in the Oscar Best Picture category and which could possibly have won … but didn’t. We take it in turns to pick a film, then discuss whether we think things have changed for that movie now, or if the original decision still stands; was it a deserving winner, or something only of its time? It’s Dan’s turn to choose, and he went for 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption, Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. Morgan Freeman provides the voiceover and Tim Robbins provides the hope. Join us to see whether we can reach any kind of agreement with the 67th Academy Awards, which handed over the Best Picture award to Forrest Gump, along with a whole bunch of other awards too. The B-Movie Podcast: Summer of Comedy – Summer School
Adam and Scott go back to High School for the Summer to attend Mr. Shoope’s Remedial English class in Carl Reiner’s Summer School. Summer School is one of those perennial cable comedy classics that kids of the 80s watched so much on HBO it was taken for granted how great of a comedy it is. Rather than being anti-school like so many High School Comedies (Rock ‘n Roll High School comes to mind), this film is pro-education and pro-kid, something rare. Rarer still, it’s a film that proposes that Kids such be taught to their strengths, not by some formula. Radical notions for a film directed by Carl Reiner who was in his 60s at the time. Our Closing Music comes courtesy again from Danny Elfman (he closed out Back To School and coincidentally the composer for Summer School too). Though, Adam almost picked EG Daily’s banger Mind Over Matter. The B-Movie Podcast: Summer of Comedy – Game Night
Adam and Scott continue their Summer of Comedy with Game Night. The credit goes to Scott for picking Game Night as he’s been one of it’s most ardent supporters since its release back in February 2018. Adam has said it numerous times. He hates the static, flat, no artistry way that many comedies are shot. Game Night is not one of those films. Shot like a David Fincher film, that adds an extra layer to the already darker side of the comedy. And The Winner Isn’t … Podcast: Taxi Driver (1976)
Season 1 Episode 1 – Taxi Driver (1976) Dan and Marie explore the films which were nominated in the Oscar Best Picture category and which could possibly have won … but didn’t. We take it in turns to pick a film, then discuss whether we think things have changed for that movie now, or if the original decision still stands; was it a deserving winner, or something only of its time? Marie got the ball rolling this time around and selected 1976’s Taxi Driver, Martin Scorsese’s delve into the mind of a psychopathic Travis Bickle, who is hell-bent on cleaning up the mess and scum of New York City all on his own, and in doing so saving a young Jodie Foster from a life on the streets. What a hero. Join us to see whether we can reach any kind of agreement with the 49th Academy Awards, which handed over the Best Picture award to one of Dan’s favourite films – Rocky! The B-Movie Podcast: Summer of Comedy – Back to School
Adam and Scott are back with another episode. This time they’re changing it up with a series on Comedies. First up Rodney Dangerfield’s Back to School! This film gets no respect. It was a blockbuster when it was released. It’s funny as hell. It has a murder’s row of talent including the biggest Star in the world, back when he wasn’t a star (hint; his initials are R-D-J). Written by Harold “Groundhog’s Day” Ramis! A score by Danny Elfman (only is second at the time). It even has the prerequisite douchebag preppy played by none other than William “Don’t Call me Billy” Zabka! Hell, it has a cameo by Kurt Vonnegut. Yes, the Kurt Vonnegut! Our Co-Host has a great time discussing the film, Dangerfield, and all the stars and greatness that is Back to School. Including, who could forget, the Triple Lindy. If you don’t know what that is… then you need to watch this film now. End Music is from Danny Elfman’s score for Back to School. The B-Movie Podcast: The Vast of Night
Adam and Scott are back for a one-off episode discussing the upcoming Amazon Studios Release The Vast of Night. Producer’s Note: This was recorded February 23, 2020 almost three weeks before everyone would Shelter-in-Place because of COVID19. Any discussions about this release theatrically is made before just how serious this all was. This podcast was delayed because the release was delayed from March 2020 to May 2020. Per IMDb the plot for The Vast of Night is such; In the twilight of the 1950s, on one fateful night in New Mexico, a young switchboard operator Fay and charismatic radio DJ Everett discover a strange audio frequency that could change their small town and the future forever. This low-budget wonder is the real deal and our Co-Hosts agree. They discuss everything from the style, homage, Film Festival finds, The Twilight Zone, Amazing Stories, and so much more. The film is still about a month from release but they wanted to bang the drum now getting people in the know in advance of it’s March release. The B-Movie Podcast: Time to Hunt
Adam and Scott are back with another one-off episode. This one is a doozy; Netflix’s Time to Hunt. If you mixed Michael Mann’s Heat with The Coen’s No Country for Old Men, that is about as apt a description of this Korean Crime Thriller. Time to Hunt surprises you at every turn. Not just with its plot twists and smart storytelling but with carefully crafted characters, action set pieces, and visual style to spare. This is the film you’ve been looking for if you’ve been starved for great genre material. Time to Hunt could be a gateway to Foreign Genre Films and filmmakers. The B-Movie Podcast: Braven
Adam and Scott discuss Braven. What? Never heard of this Jason Momoa action-drama. Well, the guys are about to make you aware of just how good this 2018 VOD title is. Damn, good. BTW, you need to know in advance. The Action film is the kind of elevated mid-budget programmers that we used to get in the ’80s, ’90s, and even the early ’00s. A tight crafty script. Solid direction. Good acting. Smart human grounded set pieces. Most importantly stakes that actually matter. They rarely make them like this anymore. A lively discussion between your co-host comes out of Braven as they discuss what they love and miss about Action films, how the search for them has changed in the streaming era, Stallone’s One-Offs, and so much more. The Music that ends the podcast is from Braven composed by Ohad Benchetrit and Justin Small. You can find Braven for free on Amazon Prime Follow Us on Twitter Follow Us on Instagram Follow Us on Letterboxd Subscribe to the Podcast on iTunes

The B-Movie Podcast: Hanging out with Shane and Adam
Welcome to the party pal! CLANKITY-CLANK-CLANK… (you’ll get it once you listen to the podcast) Shane Singletary joins Adam filling in Co-host duties for Scott on this epic 2+ hour deep dive into our viewing habits. Also, whiskey, a lot of whiskey. Listen as Adam gets progressively drunker and drunker (it’s around the 90-minute mark). They talk the movies they’ve watched during this COVID-19 Lockdown, welcome being hit by James “Don’t Call me Jimmy” Caan, Peter Berg’s previous life as an actor, Divorced Dad’s always showing films to their sons’ films they shouldn’t, the badassery of Sonny Landham, Bad Ah-nuld impersonations, Adam’s laugh (which oddly sounds like DeNiro’s in Cape Fear), and so much more. The music we open and close the podcast with is of course Alan Silvestri’s score for Predator. The B-Movie Podcast: Crossing the Streaming Services
Adam & Scott are back with a more laid back conversation about Streaming Services. Ones that are NOT Netflix, Disney+ or Hulu. Recommendations that are NOT Tiger King. Hold on to your butts. This one comes fast and furiosa at y’all. Don’t worry every film we discussed is listed below. This is much more relaxed and not at all focused on one film. Though at the end we get pretty heavily into Mike Flanagan’s filmography. Actually, something we decide On-Air to make our next episode (it is). Note that Adam and Scott do get a bit more artful and esoteric with their choices here but figured that film fans are film fans are film fans. As it’s a hangout episode the movies they are watching without real purpose are in play here so much is discussed that is of the “Non B-Movie Podcast” variety. Stick with them as its some fascicle and very interesting conversation. Streaming Platforms Discussed: Mubi (This link takes you right to the 90 days for $1 deal discussed in the podcast, quick before its gone!) Shudder (Use the code SHUTIN for a free 30-Day Trail, while it lasts) The Criterion Channel The Movies/Filmmaker Series Discussed: Lav Diaz (on Mubi) Isabelle Hupert (on Mubi) Yorgos Lanthimos (on The Criterion Channel) Channel Zero (on Shudder) Joe Bob Brigg’s The Last Drive-In (on Shudder) Luz (on Shudder) Tigers are not Afraid (on Shudder) Cold Hell (on Shudder) Knife + Heart (on Shudder) The Pool The Burning (on Netflix, yeah one film on Netflix but its a doozy of a film) The John Hawkes Triple Feature: Small Town Crimes (Netflix) Too Late (Rental) Bonus: Life of Crime (Rental) Horror Double Feature Into the Dark: The Body (Hulu) Hush (Netlfix) Stay tuned because we’ve got a few bonus episodes in the works that should be a lot of fun. That is in addition to our Mike Flanagan episode we’re doing next week. To those very active listeners. Yes, that is indeed Q Lazarus’ Goodbye Horses that opens and closes the show. Any B-Movie Pod fan should know the song. Why choose the song? ‘Cause why not! Also, it’s a hint in a very roundabout way to a Commentary that Adam and Scott are going to be recording in a month or so. See if you can guess the movie that has nothing to do with this song and everything to do with this song. The B-Movie Podcast: The Invisible Man (2020) & Social Distancing
Adam and Scott are back to discuss Leigh Whannell’s brilliant The Invisible Man (2020) and the changing landscape of how we watch movies (and what’s available). We’ve gone from 0 to 100 real quick. Yeah, we can be all doomsday about everything. We can recommend or worse cover some pandemic or virus film. We won’t though. Rather we’ve decided to be positive and look for a silver lining. Adam and Scott, two gents not prone to positivity have sided on just that. First, they discuss what they’ve been watching. Scott: Prime Suspect (available on Hulu) Adam: Police Academy 1 – 7 (available on Netflix) The Michael Winslow Led Zepplin clip that Scott was talking about. Then onto the Main Topic. The changing landscape and the films that were a few weeks ago atop the Box Office. Scott watched: The Hunt (available for rent on iTunes, Amazon, Vudu) The other films we discussed in regards to The Hunt: Surviving the Game (dir. Ernest Dickerson) Hard Target (dir. John Woo) Adam watched: The Invisible Man (available to rent on iTunes, Amazon, Vudu) The other films we discussed in regards to The Invisible Man: Upgrade (dir. Leigh Whannell) Insidious Chapter 3 (dir. Leigh Whannell) The Music that follows our Podcast is from Benjamin Wallfsich’s great atmospheric score for The Invisible Man (2020).
