Over time, these pagan traditions fused with Christian customs, pairing Krampus with Saint Nicholas despite repeated attempts by the Church and even 20th-century governments to ban him.Today, Krampus lives on through Krampuslauf events, where costumed participants in carved wooden masks, animal pelts, horns, and bells parade through towns in controlled chaos.
