El envejecimiento de la población está a punto de convertirse en una de las transformaciones sociales más significativas del siglo XXI, con consecuencias para casi todos los sectores de la sociedad, entre ellos, el mercado laboral y financiero, la demanda de bienes y servicios, como la vivienda, el transporte y la protección social, así como la estructura familiar y los vínculos intergeneracionales. En 2050, 1 de cada 3 españoles tendrá 65 años o más, y por cada persona en esta franja de edad habrá solo 1,7 personas en edad de trabajar (hoy, hay 3,4). Este envejecimiento traerá importantes oportunidades sociales y económicas al país, pero también notables desafíos para la sostenibilidad del estado de bienestar.
