Al mismo tiempo que la población mundial alcanzaba los 8.000 millones de habitantes, representantes de todo el planeta, reunidos en Egipto en la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático, intentaban ponerse de acuerdo para limitar el exceso de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero que están produciendo un cambio climático de consecuencias desastrosas para el futuro de la humanidad. Un concepto básico para luchar contra el cambio climático es "la Huella de Carbono", una medida del conjunto de gases de efecto invernadero que se emiten y absorben como consecuencia de una actividad.
