El primer borrador del genoma humano fue terminado en el año 2000 y presentado al mundo a bombo y platillo. Fue un acontecimiento extraordinario que algunos llegaron a comparar con la llegada del ser humano a la Luna o con el descubrimiento de América. Por aquel entonces Jorge Laborda escribía un artículo analizando las repercusiones que tendría en el futuro el descubrimiento.
