¿La música sin clases?

Generalmente se asocia el término música “culta” con personas muy serias y muy bien vestidas que ejecutan interpretaciones instrumentales o vocales ante un público de gesto grave y mirada intelectual profunda distinta al resto de los mortales. Por lo general se suele olvidar (o se ignora, que es peor) que lo que hoy en día se alaba como música clásica, música antigua o música del pasado cumplió en su época, salvo excepciones, la misma función que el pop, el rock o los baladistas en éste nuestro siglo y en el inmediatamente anterior. Es decir, entretener y emocionar a todo el mundo, culto o no culto, y crear la banda sonora de la vida de las personas. Tal es el caso de Henry Purcell, uno de los principales músicos británicos de la segunda mitad del siglo XVII, quien además de tener composiciones culturalmente “elevadas” – como las óperas “Dido y Eneas”, “El rey Arturo” o la famosa “Música para el funeral de la reina María”-, compuso divertidísimas y soeces canciones de taberna destinadas a ser interpretadas por coros de borrachos, jarra de cerveza en mano, en los tugurios del viejo Londres. Hoy escucharemos dos de estas piezas. La primera, Come, let us drink; y la segunda, Of all the instruments, que nos habla de instrumentos de cuerda frotada.
