Lo fanno attraverso quello che è il Big Bang del videogioco commerciale, perché ok, fissiamo l’origine degli assi su Tennis for Two (1958), ma nel lasso di tempo tra l’oscilloscopio ludico di Higinbotham e Space Invaders succede veramente pochissimo. E quindi nel 1978 gli alieni invadono. Non sappiamo perché, non sappiamo nemmeno se stiano effettivamente invadendo, magari è tutto ambientato in un esopianeta che abbiamo colonizzato in un lontano futuro dove abbiamo fatto quello che sappiamo fare meglio davanti ad un continente inesplorato, ammazzare tutti i locals e colonizzarlo. E continueremo a non sapere un gran cazzo fin quasi agli anni 2000, se non per qualche occasionale contributo per lo più caduto nel vuoto perché il videogioco, soprattutto in occidente, vuol dire soprattutto divertimento. Poi però le cose ad un certo punto cambiano. E i videogiochi scoprono la pietà. Questo è il fil rouge che Arianna ha tessuto da Tomohiro Nishikado fino a Cory Barlog.
