Es incontable el número de científicos que están por detrás del desarrollo de las actuales vacunas contra el coronavirus. Sin embargo, queremos destacar el trabajo de Katalin Karikó una investigadora nacida en Hungría, hija de un carnicero, que tras completar sus estudios de microbiología y al conseguir su doctorado, decidió volar a Estados Unidos con su esposo y su hija de dos años con el poquísimo dinero que lograron juntar vendiendo todo lo que tenían, cosido dentro de un oso de peluche. Tras muchísimos inconvenientes, logró un trabajo como investigadora en la Universidad de Pensilvania, pero al no tener los apoyos suficientes, pasaba de un laboratorio a otro, buscando siempre mejorar y mantenerse trabajando en lo único que le importaba: demostrar que el ARN podía usarse para tratar un puñado de enfermedades.
