Lake Lanier Hauntings | The Lady of the Lake, Oscarville & the Dark History Beneath Georgia’s Deadliest Lake

from You Two Scare Me Podcast | A Paranormal Podcast · host Andi Zyvith and Feliz Andrews

Send us Fan Mail Is Lake Lanier haunted? Georgia’s Lake Lanier has become one of the most infamous and allegedly haunted lakes in America, known for its drownings, deadly boating accidents, submerged roads and cemeteries, and chilling ghost stories. From the legendary Lady of the Lake to the history of Oscarville, the real stories behind the Lake Lanier hauntings may be even more disturbing than the paranormal legends. In this episode of You Two Scare Me, we explore the haunted history of Lake Lanier and the land that existed long before the reservoir was created in the 1950s. Beneath Lake Lanier are remnants of old roads, bridges, homes, trees, foundations, and burial grounds left behind when the valley was flooded to create the massive Georgia reservoir. We also dig into the history of Oscarville and the 1912 Forsyth County expulsion, when racial violence forced nearly every Black resident from Forsyth County. Long before Lake Lanier existed, this land had also witnessed the forced removal of Native Americans and generations of death, displacement, and loss. Then we get into the Lake Lanier ghost stories. One of the lake’s most famous legends is the Lady of the Lake, a mysterious woman in a blue dress reportedly seen near Brown’s Bridge. The legend is connected to the real 1958 disappearance of Delia May Parker Young and Susie Roberts. When a woman’s body was discovered in Lake Lanier the following year, investigators were unable to identify her. More than three decades later, the discovery of a submerged 1954 Ford finally helped solve the mystery and revealed the identity of the woman who had been buried as Jane Doe. But the Lady of the Lake is only one of Lake Lanier’s paranormal legends. Visitors and boaters have reported mysterious ghost lights moving across the water, voices calling for help when no one is there, strange sensations beneath the surface, unexplained mechanical problems, and even the sound of a church bell supposedly ringing from beneath Lake Lanier. With a history of drownings and boating deaths combined with submerged communities and decades of ghost stories, it isn’t hard to understand why Lake Lanier has earned such a dark reputation. And in this week’s Somebody Told Me, we leave Georgia and travel to Belize for an especially creepy listener story. Jemmy shares her terrifying childhood encounter with La Llorona, the legendary Weeping Woman, who appeared in the middle of a dark road before rushing directly toward her.
