Laura Lee's Sin Bin - Walkers Not Involved With The Boston Marathon
from WAPL Mornings with Laura Lee & Cutter · host Laura Lee and Cutter
Nike tried to be edgy before the Boston Marathon and put up a sign that basically said “Runners welcome. Walkers tolerated.”Which, let’s be honest, is exactly the kind of cocky, slightly obnoxious thing you’d expect from a brand built on elite performance and people who think jogging at 5am builds character.Suddenly, everyone who’s ever taken a water break, tied their shoe mid-run, or emotionally processed life during a brisk walk decided this was a human rights violation. Critics called it “pace shaming,” exclusionary, and basically an attack on anyone not sprinting like they’re being chased by a bear.Nike, seeing the mob forming, immediately folded like a lawn chair at a family BBQ. They yanked the sign, apologized, and replaced it with something that sounds like it was written by a committee of HR managers... “Movement is what matters.”Translation: “We regret having a personality.”And now we’re all left with the safest slogan imaginable, because nothing says inspiration like a message so neutral it could double as a yogurt commercial.
