Lawrence, KS Considers Jail Expansion Even Though Crime Is Down Lawrence, Kansas has been considering an expansion to the Douglas County Jail for a number of years. Those who oppose such an expansion claim because crime is down the present jail seldom reaches capacity and that the money would better be spent on expanding Mental Health services in the city and county. This discussion will continue on June 29th when the results of a Douglas County study on Mental Health Services in the jail will be presented. No decisions on expansion are to be made at this time, but it is important for citizens to express their opinion on this issue.
