Learn about hurricanes and how to prepare for them! Steve LaVoie is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast office in West Columbia, South Carolina and a NOAA Ambassador. He has been with the NWS for three years. Born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, Steve has always been passionate about the world of weather but it was the passage of Hurricane Bob in August 1991 that set him firmly on a path to becoming a meteorologist. Steve earned his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Meteorology from Lyndon State College (now Vermont State University - Lyndon) and his Master of Science (MS) in Geography from Ball State University.
