He later served one term as a Member of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. Having sat as an opposition member as well as a member of the national Cabinet under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Steven Fletcher knows a thing or two about embracing a cause and promoting it -- despite the odds.He became a complete quadriplegic in 1996, well prior to his run for public office. after hitting a moose with his vehicle While travelling to a geological engineering job in northern Manitoba, his vehicle hit a moose, an accident that ultimately introduced him to a new life in which he would be completely paralysed below the neck.On the topic of promoting a cause, Steven explains, “the best kind of advocacy is to participate – and be seen.” He also points out that leadership is something that can be about the small, personal steps, such as, in his case, re-learning how to breathe.
