Leaders, Prophets, and the Cost of Discipleship: Deuteronomy 17–18 and Luke 14 (Day 102)

What does it cost to truly follow the King? Today in Deuteronomy, Moses sets out the requirements for the future kings of Israel: they must not multiply horses, wives, or gold, but must instead be students of the Word. We also hear the promise of a "Prophet like Moses" who is to come. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus tells the Parable of the Great Banquet—a story of an invitation refused—and then turns to the crowd with some of His most challenging words on the cost of discipleship, warning that we must "count the cost" before we build.Today’s Scripture:📖 Deuteronomy 16:21–18:22 – Moses warns against pagan worship before laying out the legal and leadership structure for Israel. We see the specific laws for kings, the provision for the Levites, and the famous promise that God will raise up a Prophet from among the people.📖 Luke 14:15–35 – After a guest mentions the "bread in the kingdom of God," Jesus tells the Parable of the Great Banquet. He then addresses the large crowds following Him, stating clearly that being His disciple requires putting Him above all else—including family and life itself.📖 Psalm 44:13–26 – The psalmist continues a raw plea for God to awake and help His people: "Rise up; come to our help!
