Poetry By Jerry RhoadsGREATNESSGreatness a brand of qualityIs it self-evident or distinctDoes it arise out of societyOr emerge as the result of instinct In fact tis man’s inner beingThat creates the goalsHe is seeingHe is imaginingHe is emanating Tis the dreams of an artistWhich create the masterpieceTis the ideas of the authorWho writes the best seller Tis the smile and the character of the leaderWho shall be remembered for good deedsTis the eyes that twinkle in honestyWhich makes a disciple convincing Tis the good humorIn spite of bad weatherTis the helpful attitudeWhich makes the crowd gather Tis the inner soul of manThat creates greatnessTis that combination of the willThe goodness the unselfishnessThe righteousnessWhich demands greatness But not every man aspires tobe greatNot every man needs that fateAnd to those whom restlessnessis wantonMay become what they’rewanting “Tis only I who can be greatIf my soul aspires to that estateUntil I indelibly undeniably createOnly a caricature” Of Jesus the greatWE HAVE RISENRoll away the stone of being aloneOpen the doors of iniquity Don’t forget immorality is a sinNever finished is a dedicated lifeNever detachedThe eggs don’t go unhatched They are life itselfOpening our shells are opening doors to moralityOpening to the joy of love So vast is its scape as to be unmanageableSo intangible as to be inconceivableThough hatched we are simpleOffspring of the conceivable We are the very embryoOf Mother NatureFather TimeA miracle of ourReceptive moral mindTo rise above the momentAnd believe in fidelity Being inspired to love is being rebornFor the new path of moralityThat will adorn your headstone“Here lies a moral man despite iniquity” “Having risen to the height of a loving person”HELL IS A LEFT TURNI often wondered if HellIs just a left turnTo get to Heaven  Why wouldn’t GodGive us different routesTo the pearly gates In case of detoursUnplanned obstaclesIn the way to the promise land In case of broken promisesBroken marriagesBroken dreams In case of unforeseenConsequences circumstancesBlind alleys deep valleys In case of forlorn dead-endsHidden curves and road blocksTrain crossings and river locks WhyI came to the conclusionThat God wants exclusionNot free passes to inclusion In other words It isn’t easy the trip to afterwardsEven the road to Hana swervesHas turns stops and curves    Okay let’s say I’m rightWhat nowIs Jesus just a traffic copIs Life the judgeWith the Holy GhostThe jury On approving a detourOr an illegal left turnOr whose bridges should burn Can’t I just punch my ticketPush through the thicketPay for play gets the wicket See what I meanThen if Hell is just a left turnAnd anybody can get back on the right path Why have HellWhy not a straight shotInto the Heaven Where everyone is equal
