Despite this, at age seven he discovered his passion for swimming, and soon developed Olympic aspirations. He learned many different tricks to help him overcome his deafness in the pool and was surrounded by supportive parents, role models, and swim coaches. After 17 years of training, Jeff qualified for the Olympics and was allowed to compete for his country in 1984, where he and his team were awarded the gold medal in the 4x200 meter relay. By chasing his dreams and creatively overcoming his hearing disability, he was able to create his own path, which led him to phenomenal achievements.
