This fall, our team has been traveling a lot! There was a three week stretch in October when six out of seven of us were working with some client somewhere in the world. It was kind of crazy, but also exhilarating. So I decided to pack my recorder on one of these client engagement trips and see what I could capture. I flew into California from Portland, and Sara Schlipp-Riedel, who arrived from Minneapolis earlier in the day, was planning to pick me up in the rental car. I texted her right before takeoff and said to be ready to talk when I got in the car.

Today on the podcast, you’ll get to hear a pretty raw conversation between Sara and I as we travel to and from a client engagement. In the first part of the show, Sara and I talk about what we’re doing with this client, and share a few points of learning we hoped to have with them. This engagement fosters curiosity, and our hope is not to answer all of their questions before we leave, but to instill in them a greater wonderment for their team members. Whatever we can do to provide them with the tools they need to better understand themselves and those sitting across from them, well take as success.

In the second half of the episode, on the way back to the airport, you’ll hear us reflecting on a few things we learned from this group. Things that surprised us, and things that went pretty much as expected, as well as a few personal and professional takeaways. I decided to record and share this because not only does it give you a little insight into who we are in a bit of an unedited sense, but also because we didn’t really plan it, and yet there were some tremendous moment of learning. Not just from our client, but for us as Strengths Professionals. So enjoy this episode. No matter where you’re at on your Strengths journey, I think there are some helpful insights you can take back to your team, to your organization, or maybe just implement in your own life.
