So, at 9 he was given an informal lesson by Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis was a family friend that stayed at his house .. and he was heavily influence by him as he studied the instrument as a teenager in San Francisco - He came to prominence in the early 1970s as a member of pianist Herbie Hancock's band – and over the years worked with Pharoah Sanders and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers - He earned his medical degree and worked a parallel career as a psychiatrist and musician – Eddie is a gracious and fascinating man ..
