Lessons from the Psalms - Psalm 9

from Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley · host Bill Kelley

Welcome to Lessons from the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be taking a look at Psalm 9. Psalm 9 was written by King David and was originally created to be sung at a church service. This psalm is a very good reminder of why so many people turn to psalms on a regular basis. It is uplifting and an encouragement for each of us. In the first two verses David is praising God - as we should do on a regular basis. Verses 3-6 remind us that, sometimes in life, things will not go our way. People may come against us. We even may face persecution of some kind. But, in verse 7 this psalm reminds us that, eventually, the Lord shall endure forever. As long as we are seeking Him, things will be alright. Verses 9 & 10 tell us that the Lord shall be a refuge to all who call upon His name. That is so comforting to know. Verse 12 tells us that He will not forget the cry of the humble. This verse reminds us that we need to come to God humbly, and not with a proud spirit. God certainly doesn't like that. Verse 14 reminds us that Jesus is our salvation. He came to Earth to forgive us of all of our sins, and to put us back in right standing with God. The rest of this psalm talks about our world today. How the leadership of this country, and, indeed, much of the world are encouraging us to live our lives as though God does not exist. But, He does, and David is praying to God that man will not prevail in the end. As we know, God ultimately will prevail - if we keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Please join me again as we take a closer look at Psalm 10.
