Lufthansa Group Achieves 25% Female Representation in Management PositionsDate: March 10,2025The Lufthansa Group has reached a significant milestone in its diversity journey, achieving its goal of 25% female managers in the first quarter of 2025.This accomplishment aligns with the aviation industry’s broader “25by2025” initiative. This was launched by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) six years prior. This global effort, aimed at fostering diversity, equality, and inclusion, has garnered commitments from over 200 aviation companies worldwide.25% is “Still too Little” – Lufthansa________________________________________Michael Niggemann, Lufthansa’s Executive Board Member for Human Resources & Legal Affairs, expressed both satisfaction and a call for continued progress. “We are delighted to have increased the proportion of women in management positions across the Group to over 25 percent,” he stated. However, he also acknowledged that this is “still too little,” emphasizing the need for sustained effort.Niggemann highlighted the incremental nature of progress, noting that “the steps are sometimes small and somewhat laborious. That is precisely why they are particularly important and necessary.”The Group’s commitment to sustainable development without gender discrimination remains a strong focus.Women in Management________________________________________The Group’s strategy for increasing female representation in leadership positions includes a global program specifically designed for women in management.Furthermore, the company has implemented guidelines to ensure the visibility of female candidates throughout the application process. These measures, coupled with robust talent promotion programs, are designed to cultivate and empower future female leaders.Currently, the proportion of female managers in the three top management levels below the Executive Board stands at 25.3%. This achievement demonstrates the tangible results of Lufthansa’s focused efforts.By leveraging the full potential of talented junior staff and continuing to prioritize diversity and inclusion, Lufthansa aims to further elevate female representation across all levels of the organization.Source:https://aviationsourcenews.com/lufthansa-group-achieves-25-female-representation-in-management-positions/FedEx Freighter Makes Emergency Landing at Newark After Bird Strike and Engine FireMarch 3,2025A FedEx B767-300F freighter was forced to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on 1 March after a bird strike caused an engine fire shortly after takeoff. The Boeing 767-300F, bound for Indianapolis, successfully returned to Newark (EWR), and the incident resulted in no injuries.  FedEx flight FX3609, operated by a Boeing 767-300F freighter, took off from Newark around 7:58 a.m. local time. Shortly afterwards, a flock of birds collided with the aircraft, causing significant damage to the right engine. The impact of the bird strike led to an immediate engine fire, prompting the pilots to declare an emergency. The climb procedure was terminated at 2,000 feet and a direct return to the departure airport was conducted.  Video footage and ground witnesses reported trails of flame emanating from the aircraft’s number 2 (right hand) engine as it passed overhead.Flight data confirms the aircraft landed safely at 8:07 am local time, around nine minutes after take-off.Emergency services were on standby and quickly extinguished the flames upon the plane’s arrival. The quick response of the airport’s fire department prevented further escalation of the situation.  The incident caused a brief disruption to air traffic at Newark, with some delays experienced as a precautionary measure. However, normal operations resumed shortly after the plane was safely on the ground and the fire was contained.  The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the FedEx emergency landing to determine the precise sequence of events and to analyze the extent of the damage. Bird strikes, while relatively common, can pose significant risks to aircraft, particularly during takeoff and landing.Source:https://aviationsourcenews.com/fedex-freighter-makes-emergency-landing-at-newark-after-bird-strike-and-engine-fire/
