Lindsay Clancy Trial: Husband's Cross-Examination Bolsters Insanity Defense

from True Crime Today | Daily True Crime News & Interviews · host Real Story Media

Patrick Clancy took the stand again today — this time under cross-examination from defense attorney Kevin Reddington — in the murder trial of his wife, Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling their three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and Reddington is arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication at the time.Where the prosecution used Patrick to lay out a timeline, the defense used him to humanize it. He testified that Lindsay dreaded returning to work — not out of ambition or obligation, but because she couldn't stand being separated from the children. Reddington then walked him through her mental health after each of the three births, and got him to confirm something specific: the reason she only took a handful of pills from each prescription wasn't resistance to treatment. It was physician instruction. That distinction is the whole ballgame for an insanity defense. "She wasn't compliant" and "she was compliant with a shifting set of doctor's orders" tell two very different stories to a jury.Prosecutors still need to convince that jury she knew right from wrong that day. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to last several weeks.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
