Lisa Jacobs, Backstage of Her Life

from WomanUp - There's only one you · host WomanUp

In this week's episode, we had the opportunity to interview the inspiring Lisa Jacobs. Lisa is a Music Therapist & Professional Musician Multi-instrumentalist, Lisa Jacobs, declares the bass guitar her most beloved. Playing in her first blues festival at age 12, she has gone on to write, record, music direct and perform with a variety of artists, including platinum recording pop artist Jocelyn Alice, Marshall (Walk Off The Earth), Juno winner Paul Reddick, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Wide Mouth Mason, Suzie Vinnick, Amy Bishop and Jann Arden (a personal highlight). In addition to working as a session musician, Lisa released an EP with her original project - jocelyn & lisa- in 2012. A song from that project - “Bound to You” went gold after being re-released by Jocelyn Alice in 2018. Most recently, Lisa toured North America for 6 months with “We Will Rock You”, a musical based on Queen’s music. A major venue highlight was playing the theatre in Madison Square Gardens. Lisa has a degree in music therapy, with a minor in jazz performance on electric bass. As a therapist, she’s had the opportunity to create music with people of varied abilities in many different settings including schools, hospitals and even a maximum security prison. In our chat with Lisa… We dive into music therapy! What is music therapy? How and who can benefit from it? Lisa explains the work she’s been doing in this particular sector and gives a couple examples of patients' ages, genders and problems they’ve been dealing with. Lisa shares with us a wonderful story and an even greater version of a song that was birthed through pressure and spite. Lisa says “You never know when inspiration and creativity is going to happen. Sometimes it’s in the most adverse, weird and uncomfortable situations.” We get to chat about goals and how the lack of them can also be translated as a blessing. Not having set goals allowed Lisa to be open and say yes to random things that she otherwise wouldn’t have even considered. We come to the conclusion that at the end of the day, we truly are our worst enemies. Always chasing the next big thing, never celebrating the small victories, never drawing the line. Throughout our conversation we get to realize how we are all the same. Different but yet the same. Finally, Lisa opens up about her two very new and very powerful habits that have helped her a great deal in her everyday life since the pandemic. Music and ice cold showers! Success to Lisa is: “Trying your very best, not doing it”. Lisa’s message to women is: “Be confident.” To connect with Lisa, find her on the following platforms: IG: @lisajuliejacobs TW: @lisajuliejacobs FB:  facebook.com/lisajuliejacobs
