Cada vez vemos más anuncios y vídeos en redes sociales prometiendo dientes blancos en pocos días. ¿Son seguros estos blanqueamientos caseros?Hay que tener mucho cuidado. Lo primero que debemos saber es que no todo lo que se vende como blanqueamiento dental es seguro ni eficaz. Muchas personas compran productos por internet o siguen consejos de redes sociales sin saber que pueden dañar sus dientes y encías.¿Y cuáles son los riesgos más frecuentes?El principal es la sensibilidad dental. Cuando se utilizan productos demasiado agresivos o sin supervisión profesional, los dientes pueden volverse muy sensibles al frío, al calor o incluso al aire.También es frecuente sufrir irritaciones o quemaduras en las encías porque muchos productos no están diseñados para proteger los tejidos blandos de la boca.Y hay otro problema importante: algunas personas utilizan remedios caseros como bicarbonato, limón o carbón activado pensando que son naturales y, por tanto, seguros. Sin embargo, pueden desgastar el esmalte dental de forma irreversible.¿O sea que lo natural no siempre significa que sea bueno?Exactamente. Por ejemplo, el limón es muy ácido y puede erosionar el esmalte. El bicarbonato utilizado de forma repetida actúa como un abrasivo y el carbón activado puede desgastar la superficie dental. No todos los dientes se blanquean igual ni todas las manchas tienen la misma causa. Un diagnóstico previo permite elegir el tratamiento más adecuado y hacerlo de forma segura, controlando la sensibilidad y protegiendo las encías.¿Y cuál sería el mensaje más importante?Que una sonrisa blanca puede mejorar la estética, pero nunca debe conseguirse a costa de la salud dental.
