Jean Phillipe Rameau, conocido como uno de los más grandes operistas franceses de todo el siglo XVIII, fue también un teórico de la música. Su Tratado de armonía de 1722, proponía una “ley fundamental” que sostiene toda la música occidental y recurría a las ciencias y a las matemáticas para explicar principios armónicos supuestamente universales. Por esto lo llamaron “el Isaac Newton de la música”. Dicho tratado se difundió por toda Europa y sus teorías aún siguen vigentes. Este compositor estrenó su primera ópera a los 50 años Les Indes galantes y logró tan alto éxito que al año siguiente ya con 30 representaciones, el compositor decidió añadirle un cuarto episodio, Les Sauvages, ambientada entre los indígenas norteamericanos. A ella pertenece el número más famoso de la obra, la Gran danza de la pipa de la paz. Hoy escucharemos, esta pieza la Gran danza de la pipa de paz, que en octubre 2019 fue presentada en el Teatro de la Bastilla de París con una nueva producción de la obra. La interpretación de la música estuvo a cargo de la Orchestre Cappella Mediterranea, Coro de cámara de Namur, Maestro del Sena y Coro Infantil de la Ópera Nacional de París, dirigidos por Thibaut Lenaerts .
