Loss 13/101: Loss of a family: Alina Mavis

from The Silent Why: finding hope in grief and loss · host Chris Sandys, Claire Sandys, Alina Mavis

#018. When I first spoke to Alina she told me she was fairly confident her situation and losses were unique, and that she might even be the only person on the planet who’s faced this situation. After hearing her story - I had to admit she might be right.  This is The Silent Why, a podcast on a mission to open up conversations around loss and grief and to see if hope can be found in 101 different types of loss.Loss #13 of 101 - Loss of a family. In this episode we chat to Alina Mavis, in Massachusetts (and that’s not easy to spell for a Brit!).  In September 2020 Alina and her then-husband welcomed their first child into the world, a beautiful baby boy called Quinn. However, in January 2021 Alina’s world was changed forever when her husband came out as transgender, and then a couple of weeks later Quinn died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at the age of 3 months and 27 days. This is one of the freshest griefs we’ve explored so far on the podcast (speaking to Alina before the first anniversary of Quinn's death), but Alina’s inspiring way of navigating her grief (with the right help and therapy) has allowed her to verbalise her experiences in a way we know others will benefit from, and we wanted to share that with you. (And if you're one of those people who just wouldn't know what to say to someone going through a situation like this, Alina gives some great advice to help you.)Alina co-hosts the podcast, As Long As I’m Living, with another bereaved mum: https://www.instagram.com/aslongasimlivingpodcast/ Send us Fan MailSupport the show-----thesilentwhy.com  |  Instagram  |  Facebook  |  Twitter  |  LinkedIn What's a Herman? / Buy a Herman - thehermancompany.comSupport the show: buymeacoffee.com/thesilentwhySign-up to my mailing list (only used for sharing news occasionally!): thesilentwhy.com/newsletterHow to talk to the grieving:  thesilentwhy.com/post/howtotalktothegrievingReview the show: Apple Podcasts  |  Spotify  |  GoodpodsEpisode transcripts: thesilentwhy.buzzsprout.comThank you for listening.
