from The Silent Why: finding hope in grief and loss · host Chris Sandys, Claire Sandys, Melissa Bright

#008. When the moment comes that both your parents have died, you realise you are no longer a daughter to anyone, a role the might have been very precious to you, so what does that loss feel like? This is The Silent Why, a podcast on a mission to open up conversations around loss and grief and to see if hope can be found in 101 different types of loss.Loss #8 of 101: Loss of being a daughterIn this episode we meet podcast host Melissa Bright. Melissa is passionate about helping others to learn to deal with everyday worry, self-doubt and self-worth issues, by changing the way you think. The journey that brought her to this point involved giving birth at 16 years old and then losing her main support system, her mum, just under 10 years later. With the loss of other family members, loss of a job in the travel industry to Covid, and the death of her father earlier this year, Melissa is no stranger to grief and navigating the various stages. She talks honestly about losing herself, pushing her grief down, her relationship with her mum, not fully having the conversation she wanted with her dad before he died, feeling abandoned on the planet, and how it wasn’t until she found her purpose and started her podcast that she truly started to find herself again. Melissa is a great advocate for therapy, and medication when needed, to help with anxiety and unpicking emotions we don’t fully understand. For more about Melissa and her podcast visit: https://www.thebrightsideoflifepodcast.com.
