He was jailed for having Christian beliefs. He helped young men and soldiers get married in the 8th century, thus, viewed as a patron saint of lovers. He was later executed in Rome by the Roman emperor Claudius ll, for refusing to renounce his faith. It has also become an appreciable cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.
