Macy’s 1991 Thanksgiving Days Parade

As Jennifer Lopez famously stated in that golden turkey, GIGLI: “Its turkey time. Gobble, Gobble.” (Relive the experience here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCQEs4uXbSc) Yes, its Turkey Time once again and VHS Rewind is back with its Thanksgiving way-back machine: in this episode, we taking you back in time to relive the 1991 Thanksgiving Day Parade (courtesy of an NBC affiliate in Eureka, California!). Guided by some cringe-inducing banter between hosts Katie Couric and Willard (loves the very young ladies) Scott, this particular Thanksgiving Day Parade offers the usual flotilla of floats, clowns, off-key high school marching bands, baton twirlers and of course your then-favorite character B A L L O O N S (Woody Woodpecker; Betty Boop (I think Willard has a woody for this one); Pink Panther; Raggedy Anne; Bart Simpson and more). And this parade is chock full of top Grade-A talent: John Schneider (!) SINGS! Kelsey Grammar SINGS! Keith Carradine SINGS! Joey Lawrence (‘memba him?) SINGS! Susan Anton (‘memba her?) SINGS! (and taking a nod from Willard, one of the VHS Rewind (loves the very young ladies) co-hosts (yes, it’s Christopher) swoons over Susan. And so much more incredible talent is on display (PC Quest (‘memba them?) (look them up if you don’t ‘member). And what is a Thanksgiving Day Parade without a depressing song from the then-Broadway show MISS SAIGON?!?! This parade abounds with so many great fashions. Given that this is the Thanksgiving Day parade, and Christmas is less than a month away, the commercials in between the parade are curiously not-Xmas-ey in flavor (some are, but most are about Cotton (!)
