Magic Mushroom Hour w/Omega Why we listen to Classic Rock Episode 2356

from Magic Mushroom Hour with Omega · host mrheld

Tremendous… we are tuned into the frequencies tonight. We open with a classic from David Bowie — “Space Oddity”, then move into Stephen Stills & Manassas, followed by one of my favorite songs from the Doobie Brothers. From there, we drift into Steve Winwood and Traffic off John Barleycorn Must Die. John Lennon is up next with one of his timeless cuts, and then on to the music of Beck. We just follow the signal… and let the music lead the way. From there, we step back into the psychedelic sounds of the ’60s with a couple of tunes from Mike Pinera and Iron Butterfly, heading into the sweet, soaring sounds of Manfred Mann. A little harmonica? We’ve got Blues Traveler and Big Head Todd, carried by the unmistakable sound of John Popper’s mouthpiece. Then we pick up the pace with the Black Crowes, Living Colour, Dave Meniketti, and another cut from Blues Traveler. Heading into the finale, we settle into a long set from the boys from Liverpool, followed by the Moody Blues, and a couple of very moving songs from Tumbleweed Connection and Elton John. We ease into the close with Harry Nilsson, John Lennon, Uriah Heep, and finish the night with “Sweet Nuthin’” from the Robinson Brothers. We follow the signal… and the music always brings us home. I am Omega… a traveler of frequencies. Tonight we open another doorway through sound — a place where forgotten bands live again, and where the songs of the past still breathe. Great songs… great writers… and timeless sounds from another time. Our journey through the soundwaves comes to a close for tonight. The vinyl may stop spinning, but the music never really ends. Somewhere out there, another song is waiting to be discovered. Until we meet again on the long cosmic road… Keep your mind open, your heart free, and let the frequencies guide you. Good night, travelers. Headphones are recommended — or download the show to your car audio system. Remastered classic rock was meant to be heard this way, especially since most of us no longer have the stereo systems we grew up with in the 1970s. Remember those Magneplanars… or the old ESS towers? This is an FM broadcast on North Carolina Public Radio — no ads, no promotion, no money involved — just the love of music. Classic Rock and Progressive Rock. If you enjoy long-form tracks and deep musical journeys, this is your station. Sometimes mellow, sometimes hard — always three hours of nonstop, commercial-free music flowing together the way great radio once did… with just a little of that 1970s weirdness mixed in for fun. If you’re a headphone listener, this is your place. Every track is decompressed and remastered before it reaches the airwaves. It’s all about the music — nothing more. Let the sound carry you.
