In this message from Colossians 2:4–7, we learn that the best safeguard against drifting is steady spiritual progress, painted in six pictures: the soldier's discipline, the pilgrim's walk of faith, the tree's unseen roots, the builder's foundation, the student's schooling, and the river overflowing its banks. Christ is in you and you are in Christ — like a bottle in the ocean with the ocean in the bottle. But growth has no microwave setting: roots, buildings and rivers all take time. Stay rooted, keep building, and overflow.
